This paper aims to investigate the terms and conditions of a lesbian gaze and a lesbian spectatorship from a feminist and queer theoretical point of view. The empirical material consists of three paintings by the American artist Romaine Brooks (1874-1970).  Brooks was based in Paris in the early 20th century where she was surrounded by a group of intellectual and usually cross-dressing lesbians. The women within this context are the ones depicted in Brooks? paintings and this makes her one of the first artists in modernity to openly portray lesbian and cross-dressing women.

I uppsatsen undersöks den feministiska filmteorin utifrån ett feministisk perspektiv, för att sammanfatta och klargöra de ståndpunkter som utgör teorin. Fokus är framför allt lagt på sättet kvinnor representeras i film, och hur man kan tolka den kvinnliga närvaron. Diskussion förs angående de mest förekommande perspektiven inom filmteorin, såsom den psykoanalytiska, samt de alternativa perspektiven postkolonial och lesbisk teori, som bidrar till förståelsen av kvinnors representation i film. Resultatet av diskussionerna uppmärksammar både styrkor och svagheter hos teorierna, men visar framför allt hur relevant det är att använda sig av det feministiska synsättet för att öka jämställdheten inom filmbranschen, filmvärlden samt publiken..

Arbetare har under många årtionden kämpat för sin föreningsrätt och när proletarismen till slut mynnar ut i kapitalism är organisering nödvändig. Mitt arbete är därför vigt åt de arbetare, i synnerhet fabriksarbetare som under 1800 talets slut kämpat för rätten till facklig organisation. Uppsatsens syfte är att försöka ge en historisk inblick i den svenska fackföreningens nödvändiga kamp mot kapitalismen. Tanken är att med hjälp av lokala strejker lokalisera ideologiska samt materialistiska utgångspunkter, strejkmönster samt maktrelationer. Laura Mulvey was the first to suggest that women and men have different positions on the screen; men drives the plot forward, and the women are objects of masculine desire and lust.The purpose of this report was to look at and compare the two characters from the 70?s - and 80's with two characters from the 00?s - and 2010?s to gain a deeper understanding and insight into how female action heroes are presented. This will be done with the help of the questions; How is the female action heroes that are analyzed in the paper?What are the differences and similarities between the past and the present-day action heroes? Just how stereotypical are the women in their genre? The four female action heroes that were analyzed were; Princess Leia Star Wars, Sarah Connor Terminator and Lisbeth Salander Men Who Hates Women and Katniss Everdeen The Hunger Games.The four female action heroes were analyzed based on Rikke Schubarts categories (Moderarketypen, Amazon, Dotterarketypen, Ha?mnerskan and Dominatrix), the character's personal development, the character's violence and the reason for the character's.Characters from the past were more often presented as more uncertain and fragile than the modern confident characters. The female action heroes of modern times was more independent, strong, and in no need of a man in comparison with contemporary female action heroes.

This thesis is about covers of books and DVD movies. I have tried to find out if the visual communication of the covers differs between the book and movie with the same story. Do they appeal to different target groups? I have also been trying to find out what designers can do to increase the visibility of covers among others. Are there certain rules to follow for making a cover visible?To reach a conclusion I have been studying components in advertising pictures, since covers work as a kind of advertiser for the product.

This study is about underlying discourses of two tv-series for children from opposite parts of the globe. Focus lays on which morals and values adults choose to teach children through popular culture, even on an unaware basis and how does differ, or not, between different societies.The theoretical framework chosen for this study are semiotics in combination with the concept of the gaze by Laura Mulvey. Semiotics is the study of signs and their underlying meanings constructed by society. By studying popular culture with the tools provided by semiotic analysis it is possible to discouver underlying myths, social constructions of society, that are reproduced over and over again to remain alive. Mulveys theory of the gaze is helpfull in the process of decoding those constructions to discover the dominant partys and norms represented.In this particular study underlying structures such as patriarcal power relations, unequality between the representation of different ethnicities and the consistent presents of the male gaze where discovered.

Denna uppsats behandlar fyra svenska böcker för barn i åldrarna 8 ? 14 år som varit mest utlånade på Halmstad bibliotek under 2008. Titlarna som analyserats är Fixa pengar annars?! av Lena Lilleste, Det brinner! av Laura Trenter, Den danske rånaren av Petter Lidbeck samt Den trettonde gästen av Martin Widmark. Syftet med uppsatsen var att se hur killar och tjejer, samt män och kvinnor, framställs i litteraturen.

Each time you pass a stand full of magazines it?s hard not to absorb the many exhortations that are being thrown at you. The range of different lifestyle magazines have more or less exploded during the last years. All magazines, each one trying to outmatch the other, want to help you improve to be the best you can.People get affected by their surroundings including what they see and what they read. Therefore we chose to do this study, as an opportunity to get a closer look on what the Swedish lifestyle magazines Cosmopolitan and Café tell us about women and men.

The Disney princess line includes nine films, in our study we have extended this line to include the latest three films from Walt Disney Pictures that follow the same pattern. These films are Tangled (2010), Brave (2012) and Frozen (2013). We have conducted our study using the same method used by England, Descartes and Collier-Meeks (2011) in their study of the first nine films, starting with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs produced in 1937 to Princess and the Frog from 2009. A quantitative study was executed where we focused on gender role portrayal, the main characters behavioral characteristics and performed rescues. We applied the following theories to our result; the Social Constructivism, Laura Mulvey?s theory of the Male Gaze, Michel Foucault?s theory of power and discourse, intersectionality and Claude E.

The aim of this essay is to investigate how the author JT LeRoy (a. i. Laura Albert) questions and broadens the concept of authenticity in literature and authorship. My study is based on LeRoy?s novel Sarah [2000] and the collection of short stories The heart is deceitful above all things [2001], as well as articles written about the construction of Laura Albert?s alter ego JT LeRoy.

The purpose of this randomized controlled study was to investigate the effect of internet- administered guided self-help for women suffering from psychological problems following traumatic childbirth. The eight-week treatment program consisted of written chapters based on cognitive behavioral therapy. 56 participants were randomly assigned to a treatment group (n = 28) or a waiting list group (n = 28).The results showed that post-traumatic symptoms decreased as a result of the treatment, with large within-group effects measured by both the Traumatic Event Scale (TES) (d = 1.33) and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) (d = 1.3). The difference between the groups was only significant when measured by the IES-R in which case the between-group effect was large (d = 0.97). The proportion of the participants who showed clinically significant improvement was considerably greater in the treatment group than in the waiting list group.

Denna undersökning berör de genuskonstruktioner som finns i skapandet av actionhjältinnor. Jag har valt att undersöka Salt (2010) Sucker Punch (2011) samt Resident Evil:Retribution (2012) Undersökningens frågeställningar är,Hur motiveras användande av våld då det utförs av kvinnliga actionhjältinnor?Vilka arketyper går att urskilja i representationerna av kvinnliga actionhjältinnors våldsutövande?Vilka symboler går att urskilja i kvinnliga actionhjältinnors utövande av våld?Min undersökning grundar sig i teorier om genus med utgångspunkt i Raewyn Connel, för att vidare knyta det samman till Stuart Halls representationsteorier samt stereotypifiering. Teoriavsnittet avslutas sedan med kvinnlig medieforskning från Liesbeth Van Zoonen samt Laura Mulvey. Min tidigare forskning grundar sig i en förklaring till hur den manlige hjälten genom tiden har representeras och vad som a?r representativt fo?r denne.

Syftet och frågeställningarna med uppsatsen är att fastsälla vilka de betydelsebärande skillnaderna är i filmerna 13 Ghosts (1960) och Thir13en Ghosts (2001) gällande hur kvinnor framställs i aspekterna våld, scener med övernaturligt innehåll samt sexualitet. Syftet är även att ta reda på hur övernaturlighet och våldsscener skiljer sig från varandra mellan filmerna utan att väga in ett genusperspektiv, samt vad det finns för stora skillnader i hur kvinnor framställs i förhållande till männen med betoning på remaken.Teorier hämtas från Karen Boyle och Göran Bolins teorier om våld i film och feministisk filmteoretisk forskning med namn som Marianne Kleberg, Elisabeth Cowie, Laura Mulvey och Shohini Chaudhuri, där sexualitet och objektifiering av kvinnokroppen står i centrum. Vidare behandlas teorier av Emely D. Edwards, Carrol F. Fry, Marina Warner samt Tom Ruffles angående populärkultur och andlighet.Metoden som används i denna studie är en semiotisk analys, där Roland Barthes beteckningar denotation, konnotation och myt agerat grundpelare.Resultat påvisar att filmerna skiljer sig till stor del inom alla aspekter och att kvinnor i remaken oftare är mer stereotypa i sina framställningar.
